The Diplomatic School Yangon

THE SCHOOL

The Diplomatic School is a non-commercially orientated, independently-operating school, founded chiefly for the children of the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diplomatic Missions, United Nations Organisations, and foreign experts and advisers assigned to Myanmar. Thereby, the school has been utilising a Partial Diplomatic Immunity since its inception, cooperating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to its unique status. Children of the staff mentioned above can get enrolled at DSY whenever their parents return from their various assignments. This may be in the middle of the school year. They may leave in mid-term, too. The school caters to children from the age of four years upwards. In relation to the number of pupils, the school maintains a high proportion of teachers to ensure individual attention for each child.

The school receives no financial assistance from any source, foreign or local, and relies for its existence solely on school fees. Since it was founded in 1975 and until 1982, only children from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the staff of Diplomatic Missions, United Nations Organisations, and foreign experts and advisers assigned to Myanmar were accepted. After 1982, the school has accepted local children as well, as funds were needed to run the school smoothly.
